My GripAble device is losing its charge, how do I turn it off correctly?

When you have finished using your GripAble device, exit your user profile and then close the GripAble app down fully on your device to turn the handset off (the blue light will flash for a few minutes whilst it switches off).

My movements aren't registering during assessment?

Please tap “Retry” and start again. Follow the onscreen instructions and maintain the position whilst the circle turns green, don’t move to the next instruction until the tick appears in the circle. The device will always wait for you to initiate each movement.

Why is my GripAble account verification email not sending?

Please check the following:

– Was the email address typed correctly in the app?

– How long has it been? Please allow 10-15 minutes.

– Did you check your spam folder?

– Do you have a good WiFi connection?

– Have you tried again with a different WiFi network and then tapped send again?

– Is the email provided by an institute or company you work for? if so, your company may be blocking the verification email and you would need to contact your IT support team.

Why are the blue lights on GripAble flashing?

When the GripAble is available to pair the blue pairing lights at the top will pulse until the device is paired or the GripAble goes to sleep.

When the GripAble has been paired with a tablet the blue lights at the top should remain solid for a minute or so, even if playing a game. The lights do not remain on whilst playing activities.

Why have the lights on my GripAble switched off?

The lights on the GripAble will turn off after a few seconds of the App being put into the background or the screen being turned off. Initially, the device will be in standby and can be woken up by simply picking up the device to enable the user to quickly reengage once the app is put back into the foreground. Alternatively, if the device is left in standby untouched for 5-10 mins then the device will go to sleep allowing it to be stored for longer periods whilst conserving battery. It can also be transported in this state without accidental wake up as it requires a long squeeze or to be put on charge to wake it up from sleep.

Why isn't my GripAble pairing?

Please ensure that the GripAble is charged or connected to power and that you squeeze the GripAble to wake it when the app is scanning for the GripAble and click the serial number on the screen to pair.

If your GripAble is connected to another tablet or mobile nearby, please unpair the GripAble from the existing tablet/mobile by going to app Settings/GripAble Device/Unpair GripAble as the GripAble won’t appear when scanning if it is already paired with a nearby tablet/mobile.

Please find additional troubleshooting tips below:

Close the app down completely and/or restart the tablet/mobile and reopen the app and then go to Settings/GripAble Device/Unpair GripAble/ Pair New GripAble

If this doesn’t work please go to your tablet/mobile settings and turn bluetooth on if it isn’t already and then switch off and on again, check the app permissions are enabled, check location is enabled, check airplane mode isn’t on.

If you are still having issues please contact [email protected] or call +1 406-318-7892 (US) or 0207 661 4018 (UK and rest of the world).

How accurate is a GripAble grip strength measurement?

If I drop my device, will the grip strength measurements still be valid?

GripAble’s grip strength measurement accuracy has been shown to be unaffected following multiple drops onto a hard surface from shoulder height (see Mace et. al, RATE Journal, 2022 for details). However, dropping the device may damage the plastic casing if dropped with enough force.

How do I clean my GripAble device?

For infection control the GripAble and white straps are wipeable with Clinell wipes or similar.

The lanyard and tablet case can be treated separately washing it in clean cold water, possibly with a detergent for delicate fabrics, using a synthetic-fibre brush, leave it to dry naturally in the shade and away from all sources of heat.

For the Samsung Tablets the manufacturer gives the following instructions:

Before starting, make sure your device is powered down and unplugged from any power sources. Remove any covers, cases, or accessories as well.

A lint-free, soft microfiber cleaning cloth is ideal for cleaning your device. You may also use a camera lens cleaning cloth. These are gentle and will not damage your device.

Gently wipe the front and back of your device with the microfiber cloth. Do not apply too much pressure.

You should avoid getting excess moisture onto your device; however, you may dampen the corner of the microfiber cloth with a small amount of distilled water.

You can also use a disinfectant, such as a hypochlorous acid-based solution (containing 50-80ppm) or an alcohol-based solution (containing more than 70% ethanol or isopropyl alcohol). Do not apply these liquid solutions directly to your device; they should be carefully applied to a microfiber cloth instead.

Avoid using cans of compressed air, as they may damage the surface of your device.

Do not use spray bleach on your device.

How does the GripAble compare to the Jamar?

GripAble demonstrates good-to-excellent inter-instrument reliability to the Jamar PLUS+ (see Mutalib et al., BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders Journal, 2022). Due to differences in size and shape, GripAble’s grip strength measurement is equivalent to 69% of the Jamar PLUS+. For example, a grip strength reading of 6.9 kg measured with the GripAble device may be found to be 10 kg when remeasured with the Jamar PLUS+ device for a given individual. However, given the range of hand sizes that can be measured, this difference is likely to change. Therefore, it is not advisable to use the GripAble and Jamar devices interchangeably.
